Online Exhibitions

This is the first alien species interactive website of its kind from a Canadian museum - a site that not only educates, but allows visitors to track species using Google Maps. Visitors can upload the location of an alien sighting, images if they have them, and field notes. The website also offers the opportunity to ask questions of one of the Royal BC Museum curators or collection managers.

Big BC Map

Dimensions: 21 ' x 16 '

In the lobby of the Royal BC Museum is an immense relief map of British Columbia - the Big Map.

On the Big Map, visitors encounter a variety of projected presentations about topics that are important to the province - climate change, water, living traditions of First Nations, how BC came to be.

Satellite imaging was used to carve the mountains, valleys and coastlines and then a specially designed digital program allows features on the map to be highlighted along with dramatic film footage.

We've shared four of its popular animations online to give you an intriguing glimpse of just how big BC really is.

Thunderbird Park

The Thunderbird Park interactive website is a celebration and documentation of Thunderbird Park, which is located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Since its inception in the early 1900's, the landscape itself has changed and evolved. The park was created with the intent of preserving cultural heritage. Over time, Thunderbird Park has become much much more and is now a place to practice, share, and pass on both cultural heritage and contemporary culture.
