Photocopies and Reproductions

The archival holdings of the BC Archives are non-circulating but are available, in the Reference Room, to all researchers - historians, geographers, genealogists, students, and others - who need the information they contain for research or personal use.

Reproductions of archival materials can be ordered either by making an in-person order or by placing a remote order for copies.

All copying of original archival material is done by Archives staff.  Reproductions can be made when copying is permitted under Canadian copyright legislation and donor restrictions and when copying does not jeopardize the physical condition of the records.  Researchers are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to use their own camera to photograph material, for research purposes, especially where copying is not possible due to fragility of originals or time constraints. More information about the use of cameras.

If you intend to use reproductions for a purpose other than research or personal use, you must obtain permission from the BC Archives.  For certain uses you may be charged a permission or use fee, see Permissions and Licensing for more information.

For more information on photocopying and reproduction fees, see the price list.
