FAQs
Q: Can I take photos in the museum?
Photography, filming, videotaping and sketching is permitted in most exhibition galleries for personal and educational uses. The following general restrictions apply:
• Sketching implements are limited to pens or pencils.
• The use of a tripod, monopod, easel or similar device is not permitted.
• The use of flash photography is discouraged.
• The use of special lighting is prohibited.
• Specific restrictions may be established by the Royal BC Museum and will
be posted in the applicable locations; this may include feature travelling exhibitions.
For commercial and promotional filming, please contact the marketing department. Requests must be submitted well in advance of the anticipated filming date.
Q: Is there a place to store my coat and bag?
There is a Coat Check available, by donation, for those with "same day" museum tickets. There is a minimal charge for additional items (umbrellas, etc.).
In the interest of security and comfort for all our visitors, we do not permit bags, handbags or backpacks larger than 16" high by 12" wide by 6" deep into the exhibition galleries.
If a bag exceeds that limit, but contains important items, we do permit those items to be moved into a smaller carrier which we will provide.
In some special cases - where the bag contains items essential to the visitor's health and safety - we will allow the bag into the gallery. It will be tagged in a way that lets everyone, staff and visitors, know that this is a special case.
For school groups, please contact Group Sales.
Q: Why don't the pictures on the website print out?
You may need to check your browser settings to make sure that you have background and image printing enabled.
- Internet Explorer: Go to Tools > Internet Options then click on the Advanced Tab and scroll down to the printing section and check the box beside the Print Background colours and images option.
- Netscape: Go to File > Page Setup and check the box next to Print Background (colours & images).
- Firefox: Go to File > Page Setup and check the box next to Print Background (colours & images).
Please note that in an effort to help save printer ink, the site template and navigation are designed not to print.
