Natural History

The Natural History Section of the Curatorial Services Branch of the Royal British Columbia Museum focuses on research, collections, programs and exhibits, and sharing of information about the flora and fauna of British Columbia. Section staff include curators, collection managers and administrative staff. A number of research associates work on projects and many volunteers assist in research and collections activities. Current research projects are documented in an annual research and collections plan.

Research activities are closely linked with both collections of specimens preserved at the RBCM, and associated data. Increasingly, research projects are conducted in conjunction with other agencies and groups, enabled by joint funding sources. The voucher specimens and publications of information documenting the outcomes of research are fundamental to sharing the knowledge with all potential users.
