Schools & Kids
The Royal BC Museum's on-site school programs have been inspiring the minds and imagination of youth for over 30 years. Each year, the Museum develops and provides programs on subjects ranging from pioneer life to climate change. Programs run from the middle of October to the end of April, and take place in the Museum's galleries and classroom. Information on Summer Programs can be found in our program guide:
The RBCM is proud to support the education of British Columbia’s school-aged children with free admission to the permanent exhibitions and some temporary exhibitions. Field trips can enhance students’ education by giving them hands-on experiences, the opportunity to see historically-significant objects in person and ask questions of museum and archives staff who are experts in their fields.
Wonder Sundays (1 – 3 pm, last Sunday of each Month)
Explore your museum in a new way. Bring your family on the last Sunday of each month for activities and explorations inspired by different parts of the museum. Make crafts, join special tours and let your imagination wonder away with you. Wonder Sunday is suitable for children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old and is included with admission or free with membership. To learn more about the benefits of membership click here.
Capacity Limits
Large numbers of visitors at one time can hamper your learning experience. For this reason we reserve the right to restrict the number of booked groups allowed per day. Please ensure to contact the museum well in advance of your visit to ensure that we can accommodate you.
Field Trip Planning: Orientation Video and School Visit Instructions
Our Orientation Video is also a useful planning tool. Review it yourself and even share it with the class prior to their visit. It will introduce them to the museum and what will happen when they get here.
Our
School Visit Instructions below will provide more information about how to prepare for your visit, what to expect when you get here and how to help your students make the most of their experience.
Print out a copy of our Behaviour Contract on page 5 and review it with your students. Print out a copy of Chaperone Handout on page 6 and give a copy to each of your chaperones.
Lunch
Pre-order lunches are available from the Museum Cafe. Check out the school lunch
