Self-Conducted Visits
The Royal BC Museum is proud to support the education of British Columbia’s school-aged children with free admission to the permanent exhibitions and some temporary exhibitions. Field trips can enhance students’ education by giving them hands-on experiences, the opportunity to see historically-significant objects in person and ask questions of museum and archives staff who are experts in their fields.
Capacity Limits
Large numbers of visitors at one time can hamper your learning experience. For this reason we reserve the right to restrict the number of booked groups allowed per day. Please contact the museum well in advance of your visit to ensure that we can accommodate you.
In order to be eligible for complimentary admission to our permanent galleries, BC schools must pre-book with a minimum of two business days' notice, and have a minimum chaperone ratio of 1 adult for every 5 students (grades K – 8) and 1 adult for every 10 students (grades 9 – 12).
Teacher Previews:
We welcome teachers to visit the Royal BC Museum galleries and preview the exhibits before they bring a class or group of students for a tour. This is a great opportunity for you to consider how to structure your students’ time during a visit, what exhibitions to focus your curriculum on, and what materials you may need to prepare.
Admission to the permanent galleries is free for teachers who have booked a school visit. Please provide your pre-booked visit confirmation number when arranging a teacher preview or pre-visit tour.
