Family TYRANNIDAE: Tyrant Flycatchers
Least Flycatcher (Empidonax minimus)
FIELD MARKS
This is the smallest of British Columbia's flycatchers. It looks very similar
to the Alder and Willow Flycatchers but is usually paler and more greyish.
This little bird also has bright white wing bars and eye-rings. Approximate
length: 12 cm
HABITAT
These birds prefer open deciduous or mixed woodlands as well as forest edges.
NESTING
Their nests are usually built in an upright fork of a deciduous sapling
or smaller tree. They are neat little cups of grass, bark, twigs. lichens
and plant fibres that are bound together with spider webs. The female lays
about four pale yellow eggs.
