The current zoning of the Royal BC Museum is R-2 – Two Family Dwelling, which is not relevant for such a cultural icon. Today we could legally build duplexes on this site, but our cafe is non-conforming. In 2006, we committed to the City of Victoria that we would rezone the property to properly reflect all the uses on the site.
A new comprehensive zone with an expanded site boundary, tailored to the potential needs of the Royal BC Museum over the next hundred years will include uses to ensure economic viability, vitality, and options for growth for the museum and archives.
