Remarks Some authors consider H. bachmani and H. palliates (American Oystercatcher) to be conspecific with Black Oystercatcher(see Jehl 1985). The Black Oystercatcher was previously referred to as the American Black Oystercatcher (American Ornithologists' Union 1983,1985).
