Our Land and Resources

The Osoyoos Indian Reserve consists of 13,000 hectares of grasslands, desert, creeks and mountainous terrain. The Osoyoos Indian Band land has prime viticulture areas that grow 24 per cent of the Vinters Quality Alliance (VQA) grapes in British Columbia, and includes Inkameep Vineyards, one of the earliest established vineyards in western Canada. This unique grape-growing area is the strength behind Nk'Mip Cellars, Canada's first Aboriginal owned and operated winery – a joint venture between the Osoyoos Indian Band and Vincor International. The diversity of this terrain, which encompasses 400 hectares of undisturbed desert lands, also provides opportunities for eco-tourism, including the establishment of the Nk'Mip Desert and Heritage Centre, which showcases the unique characteristics of the deserts lands and the Okanagan people.
