Celebrate Canada Day with the Royal BC Museum. Bring your pennies (you knew you were saving them for a good reason) and step right up to try your hand at an egg-and-spoon race, bean bag toss and other surprises. The Penny Carnival is taking place on the grounds surrounding Helmcken House and St Ann’s Schoolhouse. Both of these historic buildings will also be opening for the season and welcome you inside to discover more about BC’s past.

For the months of July and August, our Species at Risk exhibition will be travelling throughout the Kootenays region. Join us as we give a proper send-off to this unique travelling exhibition, and learn a thing or two as well.

Venture on a four day hike in the Scapegoat Wilderness in search of the elusive Castilleja kerryanaand without leaving your seat. Join Mark Egger, Research Associate at the Burke Museum of Natural History, on this photographic journey. The Scapegoat Wilderness is one of the few great wilderness ecosystems remaining in the United Sates. This area is home to a unique and colourful paintbrush species that Mark studies. Was Mark’s hunt for that rare paintbrush flower successful? Join us for an evening of floral adventure to find out!
A “Behind the Scenes” visit to the vertebrate collection. See for yourself how the museum stores and cares for the mammals in our research collection. Tours are limited to 10 people. The Royal BC Museum will again host the Aboriginal Cultural Festival from Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19 in celebration of Aboriginal culture, values, language and cuisine.
The festival begins with a ceremonial welcome canoe paddle through traditional lands to Victoria’s Inner Harbour. The Songhees Nation and Esquimalt Nation—the event hosts—will then lead the traditional protocol and opening ceremony before a parade of Nations officially launches the three-day celebration in anticipation of National Aboriginal Day on June 21, 2016.

Along with Fish Eye Project’s two underwater Live Dive shows at IMAX Victoria, join the World Oceans Day Expo at the Royal BC Museum.
Exhibitors and entertainers will ensure an unforgettable time. Marine touch tanks, a photo booth, a virtual reality prototype, mermaids, and more, along with over 20 exhibitors showcasing their organizational projects and initiatives.
This month’s outreach Wonder Sunday is taking place at the new Quality Foods store in View Royal, for an exploration of creating and making your own museum (with a food theme). You’ll discover ways of curating, displaying and communicating information that are fun and playful.
