Paper Cutout and Shadow Play Workshop

Join artist Jaimie Robson for a hands-on workshop inspired by her temporary installation Uprooted, on view in the Climate Change Gallery starting on June 27th. The session begins with a visit to the installation, followed by a creative workshop where participants will craft their own forest-themed paper artworks.

Drawing inspiration from botanical specimens in the museum’s handling collection, you’ll explore the intricate beauty of plant life using microscopes and magnifying glasses. Using a range of paper cutting and folding techniques, you’ll design and build your own hanging or freestanding sculpture.

Guided by the artist's own creative process—from concept to sketch to finished piece—you'll gain insight into how Jaimie brings her nature-inspired visions to life. The workshop concludes with playful shadow-play, offering a dynamic way to experience your creation. Participants will leave with their completed artwork and the inspiration to continue creating.

Age restrictions:

Due to the use of knives and blades for cutting, this workshop is restricted to ages 14 and up.
