Commemorating the 100th anniversary of Mount Logan’s first ascent in 1925, the Canadian EH Society brings to light stories of resilience on Canada’s highest peaks. The historic climb, as captured in the diaries of naturalist Hamilton Mack Laing and vividly retold in Trevor Marc Hughes’ book Capturing the Summit, offers a rare and compelling account of what it took to reach the summit.
The event features an excerpt from the silent film The Conquest of Mt. Logan—archival footage from the 1925 expedition—bringing history to life before our eyes. Insights into that first expedition will also inform the Canadian EH Society’s upcoming journey to recreate the climb using similar vintage gear and equipment.
The mystique of Mount Waddington continues to inspire the imagination. Beginning with the daring attempts of Don and Phyllis Munday to climb the peak in the 1920s, their story is vividly realized in Greg Gransden’s latest feature film, Chaos Glacier Country. The film follows a group of modern climbers who set out to conquer British Columbia’s highest mountain. But when bad weather strikes, a series of comic mishaps unfolds—compounded by the expedition leader’s insistence on using only antique climbing equipment.
This film continues the story begun in The Mystery Mountain Project, documenting the Canadian EH Society’s first attempt on Waddington.
