From Marshes to Mountains: Historical and Wetland Ecology Join Forces

Last year, Dr. Genevieve Hill, archaeology collections manager, teamed up with the Nature Conservancy of Canada to explore the heritage values of two conservation properties in the Cowichan Valley. After in-depth collections research, Dr. Hill and her team of museum volunteers were joined by Cowichan Tribes field technicians to survey the study areas. numerous sites of existing and potential cultural significance were identified. Join us to learn about the diversity of cultural sites and the strength of community partnerships. 

About the Speaker: 

Raised in the Cowichan Valley, Dr. Hill attended her first archaeological field school while an undergrad in Greek in Roman Studies at the University of Victoria.  Her studies continued and her interest focused on archaeological wet sites and perishable material culture. She has a PhD from the University of Exeter, and joined the Royal BC Museum in 2015.  See Dr. Hill's profile page here.
