In Your Hands: Making in a Digital Age

Professional development for formal and informal educators (all are welcome)

This school year is turning out to be quite unusual, however you can still connect with your community partners. Join the Royal BC Museum, Greater Victoria Public Library, The Maritime Museum of British Columbia and Pacific Opera Victoria for a discussion on the importance of creativity through books, museums and opera during these turbulent times.

The session will also include four short  workshops. Participants will leave with tangible, hands-on activities to share with your learners, at home or in the classroom.

Join us for a vibrant conversation and then put your creativity to work and make something!

Workshops:

Maritime Museum of BC- Knotting is ancient in origin and used across the world for practical, entertainment, and artistic uses. Learn how knot-tying can be both a creative outlet and stress relief, and how to use knotting to create your own works of art.

Pacfic Opera Victoria- Your voice is a magical tool. Learn from a professional opera singer not only how to use your voice as an instrument of expression in songs and story-telling, but how to use it to access your inner confidence.

Royal BC Museum- Museums have large scale dioramas to situate visitors within an imagined space to better learn about our current and historical environments. Learn how to construct mini-dioramas to explore place and interconnections within that place.

Greater Victoria Public Library- Be inspired by some great letter writing prompts and projects, and get some tangible resources for where to start.

Supplies needed: rope or string, paper and something to draw with.
