This year, see The Grateful Dead Movie, a true cult classic, upgraded from the 1977 original with IMAX’s cutting-edge remastering for stunning visuals and sound. Relive the Grateful Dead’s iconic “final” five-night run of concerts in October 1974 at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom. Immerse yourself in incredible live performances, mind-bending animation, interviews with the band and crew, and an intimate look at their fans.
“The Grateful ‘Dead Meet-Up at the Movies’ has always been a time-honored tradition for Trafalgar Releasing and the Dead Head community,” said Kymberli Frueh, SVP of Programming and Content Acquisitions at Trafalgar Releasing. “This year’s event is especially transportive as we celebrate the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary by bringing The Grateful Dead Movie back to cinemas and to IMAX screens for the first time ever. We hope fans join us to relive the magic, the music, and the spirit of the Dead like never before.”
Psychedelic animation by Gary Gutierrez opens the Jerry Garcia-directed film, while candid fan interviews showcase the vibrant Dead Head culture that ignited the Grateful Dead phenomenon. Stay tuned after the credits for the premiere of “China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider”, a never-before-seen bonus from the Winterland performances.
The Grateful Dead’s archivist and legacy manager, David Lemieux, praised the remastered IMAX screening, enthusing, “It was the greatest screening I’ve ever experienced of a film I’ve seen hundreds of times.”
Catch The Grateful Dead Movie at IMAX® Victoria and other select North American theatres, August 14 to 17.
